Position Overview

As a Principal Machine Learning Developer focused on model optimization, you'll ensure the deployment of high-performance models that enable customers to innovate and improve the world.
You will report to a research manager within the Autodesk AI Lab team, part of Autodesk Research. Our team is globally distributed across London, San Francisco, Toronto, and remote locations, supporting various work arrangements.
Responsibilities
- Optimize new and existing ML models deployed within Autodesk software.
- Quantize, distill, and prune large-scale models; evaluate their efficiency and effectiveness.
- Use techniques such as model compilation, PEFT, and others for rapid model delivery and serving.
- Experiment with various methods to analyze and optimize throughput, latency, and efficiency of production models.
- Maximize compute resource utilization.
- Evaluate and integrate new promising AI/ML methods for faster inference.
- Present results to collaborators and leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
- BSc or MSc in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience.
- 3+ years of experience in training, deploying, and optimizing large/generative models.
- 8+ years proficiency with modern deep learning techniques and frameworks such as PyTorch, Lightning, Ray.
- Experience in optimizing inference performance for large-scale deployments.
- Debugging experience with production distributed systems.
- End-to-end deployment and maintenance of ML models in cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
- Excellent documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Scaling ML training and data pipelines.
- Knowledge of Triton/CUDA programming.
- Experience with FlashAttention and other SOTA methods.
- Industry knowledge (Design, Manufacturing, AEC, Media & Entertainment).
- Familiarity with Autodesk products (CAD, CAE, CAM).
- Publications in MLSys, NeurIPS, etc.
