What You’ll Be Doing
Role: Distinguished Engineer, HQ Network Planning
- Define, architect, design, and drive RAN software strategy and feature roadmaps, including budget management.
- Focus on RAN automation for the Non-Real Time RIC and rApps.
- Evaluate and recommend strategies for leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the Radio Access Network (RAN) and rApps to optimize network performance and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Partner with stakeholders and vendors to ensure technology alignment for RAN Automation.
- Identify and vet AI-driven use cases for energy savings, coverage, capacity, and quality optimization.
- Define rApp requirements and deployment in the Verizon Cloud Platform.
- Ensure cloud platform support for AI/ML workloads and models.
- Collaborate with System Performance, Maintenance Engineering, and Operational Owners to determine business needs.
- Develop methods and procedures for operational readiness from lab onboarding to production.
- Drive continuous improvement leveraging industry automation platforms.
- Communicate program status and set clear direction on processes, standards, roles, and responsibilities.
Note: This position can be located in any valid US-based Verizon network location.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4+ years).
- 8+ years of relevant experience through work, military, or training.
- Experience with AI/ML models in RAN and rApps contexts.
- Knowledge of mobile networks on 3GPP, O-RAN standards for 4G and 5G.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
- Experience evaluating and implementing AI solutions within RAN infrastructure.
- Negotiation experience with vendors like Ericsson and Samsung.
- Cloud deployment experience, including Verizon Cloud Platform.
- Strong understanding of RAN engineering concepts and FCC/FAA regulations.
- Familiarity with wireless standard organizations such as 3GPP, ORAN, NGMN.
- Excellent presentation skills for management levels.
- Ability to prioritize in a high-volume environment.
Work Environment & Compensation
- Hybrid work model with at least 8 office days per month.
- Scheduled weekly hours: 40
- Compensation: $136,500 - $238,000 annually (varies by location and experience)
