Focus Area: CoCounsel for Tax
The Labs Tax & Corporates team is looking for an experienced software leader to direct research engineering around CoCounsel for Tax, following the acquisition of Materia. This product leverages large language models (LLM) and agents to automate workflows such as tax preparation, research, advisory, and audits.
About the Role
Leadership Responsibilities
- Lead and structure a team of 15+ research engineers
- Set expectations, model behaviors, and coach team members
- Communicate proactively and highlight team accomplishments
- Collaborate with customers and TR product/tech leaders to shape future products
Delivery Responsibilities
- Solve complex business problems with urgency
- Drive end-to-end model development lifecycle
- Partner with cross-functional teams
- Ensure operational excellence of AI systems
Innovation and Oversight
- Encourage innovative approaches and risk-taking
- Promote AI/ML research engineering practices
- Manage multiple projects and initiatives across TR product lines
- Collaborate with various leaders and teams
- Present work confidently to customers and external venues
About You
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in IT, Computer Science, or related; Master’s/PhD preferred
- 10+ years in software development, 3+ years in ML products
- 5+ years in management, coaching high-performing teams
- Experience integrating ML solutions into production
- Leadership in cross-functional ML application development
- Large-scale rollout and infrastructure experience
- Designing solutions with large language models and RAG frameworks
- Skills in Python, libraries (Numpy, Scipy, Pandas, Dask, spaCy, NLTK, scikit-learn), MLOps, cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure), real-time ML pipelines, microservices, model monitoring
Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years in management
- Experience with NLP tasks (NER, information extraction, retrieval)
- Programming in Java, TypeScript, JavaScript
